The Union Public Service Commission released the notification for the Indian Forest Service Examination(Preliminary) 2024 on the 14th of February 2024. The application period started on 14th February 2024 and ended on 5th March 2024.

The Indian Forest Service Examination notification made by the UPSC on 14th February 2024 states that the examination is set to commence on 26th May 2024. Overview of UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination 2024

With 150 vacancies, the UPSC IFS Examination aims to select individuals interested in forest conservation and management. Aspirants can submit their online application form starting from 14th February 2024 up to 5th March 2024 til 18:00 Hours. The Indian Forest Service Exam date is set for 26th May 2024.

Eligibility Criteria for UPSC IFS Exam 2024

The Indian Forest Service Exam eligibility is described briefly below:

1. Nationality

A candidate must be one of the following:

    (a) citizen of India

    (c) subject of Bhutan

    (d) Tibetan refugee in India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement

    (e)  person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, Vietnam, etc., with the intention of permanent settlement in India.

Candidates under categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) require a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

2. Age Requirement for UPSC IFS Exam 2024

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August 2024, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1992 and not later than 1st August 2003. 

3. Qualification Requirement for UPSC IFS Exam 2024

A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology, or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry, or Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Vacancy of UPSC IFS Examination 2024

The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the examination is expected to be approximately 150. Reservations will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and Persons with Benchmark Disability Categories in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government.

Selection Process for UPSC IFS Exam 2024

The competitive examination comprises two successive stages :

(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the screening & selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination; and

(ii) Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates against the vacancies identified and reported for the Indian Forest Service Examination.

Examination Pattern for the UPSC Indian Forest Service

1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination

      – Objective Type (Screening)

      – Marks not counted for final merit

      – About 12-13 times the vacancies candidates selected for Main Examination

    2. Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination

      – Written Examination (6 papers) and Interview Test

      – Marks in the Main Examination and Interview determine the final ranking

Preliminary Examination for UPSC Indian Forest Service 2024

– Two papers on Objective Type

  – Maximum of 400 marks

  – Screening test; marks not considered for final merit

  – Candidates qualified in Preliminary eligible for Main Examination

Main Examination for UPSC Indian Forest Service 2024

Written Examination:

    – 6 papers of conventional essay type

    – Subjects outlined in Section II(B)

 Interview Test:

    – Candidates qualifying for the written part are summoned for a Personality Test

    – Interview carries 300 marks with no minimum qualifying marks

Final Ranking

  – Marks in the Main Examination (written part and interview) determine the final ranking

  – Minimum qualifying marks for the written part decided by the Commission

  – Candidates twice the number of vacancies summoned for the interview

Admit Card Required for UPSC Indian Forest Service 2024

The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card on the last working day of the preceding week of the Examination date. The e-Admit Card will be made available on the UPSC website for downloading by candidates.
